Helpful Documents and Information In 1997 I went to the hospital thinking that I was having a heart attack. I could not breathe and had to hold onto something in order not to fall down. I was told that I might have asthma and was sent to a specialist. After going to specialists I was told I had what was characterized as diesel asthma. I was told that because of my service with the railroad, operating with the long hood lead and because of the condition of the locomotives, that exhaust coming into the cabin area was the causation of my condition. I filed suit and won the first ever case against any major railroad in the country for my condition. I am telling you this because during my trial we found out some interesting facts about not only diesel exhaust but about railroads in general. One of these facts is that diesel exhaust can and does cause cancers. Secondly during the early seventies, OSHA came out with a report on diesel exhaust and how it could impact workers lives and health. Instead of the American Association of Railroads taking measures to protect us they hired a firm to dispute these findings. Sure enough I got sick and many of you are either at high risk for cancer or you have already have cancer. I do not have Cancer yet but I am certainly at high risk for it. If you do get Cancer or you already have Cancer please get in touch with me so that we can help you and your family. Rodney Cutlip |
